What are the beliefs of Nichiren Shu?  What do you say about our Vice GD LKK, SKT approved, condoned and encouraged their followers to follow, embrace and get connected with Nichiren Shu?

DON’T BE FOOLED by those wicked friends, traitors or ingrates. They use all dirty tactics, lies, slanderous and delusional views to mislead and corrupt the hearts and minds of the people.

We wish to alert you about the major differences in doctrine and beliefs between SGI and Nichiren Shu. In absolute term, SGI has no connection with Nichiren Shu.

Let’s us cautiously look at the major differences between SGI and Nichiren Shu.

MAJOR DIFFERENCES IN DOCTRINE AND BELIEFS BETWEEN SGI AND NICHIREN SHU

1. The True Identity of Nichiren Daishonin

In SGI, we honoured Nichiren Daishonin as The Original Buddha of Kuon Ganjo (the original state of life that embodies Buddhahood), and The Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law.

Nichiren Shu (Minobu sect) regards Nichiren Daishonin as a Bodhisattva. Their Original Buddha is Shakyamuni Buddha.

Hence, Nichiren is referred as the “Daishonin” by SGI instead of just “Shonin” by Nichiren Shu.

2. Nichiren Daishonin’s successor

In SGI, we honoured Nikko Shonin as the sole legitimate successor of Nichiren Daishonin because of his actions to protect the purity of Nichiren Buddhism and his dedicated efforts for Kosen-rufu. On contrary, Nichiren Shu followed five senior priests whom betrayed their mentor and deviated from Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings.

It is a well-known fact that the five senior priests burned or otherwise destroyed items that they were embarrassed or ashamed to have associated with their mentor, such as letters that the Daishonin had written in common everyday language to ordinary people. Nikko Shonin alone carefully preserved the Daishonin’s vernacular writings, convinced that at some time in the future they would be translated and transmitted abroad to China, India, and the world at large.

 3. The Object of Devotion

In SGI, our object of devotion is GOHONZON. We don’t pray to statues or images.

The Gohonzon is not central in the Nichiren Shu! It is a common practice Nichiren Shu altar is flanked by various statues including Shakyamuni Buddha in the center, and statues of four leaders of the Bodhisattva of the Earth are often placed together with in the alter. In other countries of acculturation, a mixture of the other religious figures may also be permitted.

The pictures shown below are some common Nichiren Shu altar:

Above is Nichiren Shu Temple Portland Oregon. Please note, not only is the Gohonzon not central but  Kishimojin [which shouldn’t even be on the altar] obscures the Gohonzon [on the right].

4. Main Practices

In SGI, our main practice is chanting of Daimoku, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, and morning and evening Gongyo (recitation of second and sixteen chapter of Lotus Sutra). We also place strong emphasis on Shakubuku, as taught by Nichiren Daishonin.

According to Nichiren Shu official website, a form of meditation called Shodaigyo is practiced on a regular basis along with other types of services at their Churches and Temples. Shodaigyo is a practice of chanting Odaimoku (Namu-myoho-renge-kyo). There are several styles of service in the Nichiren Shu, Shodaigyo is one of these styles. An example of a Shodaigyo service is as follows:

RAIHAI (a deep bow preparing oneself to receive the Buddha and his teachings)

DOJOKAN (Meditation on the Throne of Enlightenment)

HONMON SANKI (Taking refuge in the Three Treasures, Buddha, Dharma and Samgha represented here by Nichiren Shonin)

JOSHINGYO (a few minutes of silent meditation to cleanse and bring harmony to the Body and Mind)

SHOSHOGYO (Odaimoku chanting)

JINSHINGYO (a few minutes of silent meditation to reflect on the Odaimoku and the merits received)

PRAYER (dedication of the merits received to family, friends and all the beings of  the universe)

RAIHAI (a deep bow in appreciation for the merits received and the chance to practice the Dharma)

Based on the above comparisons, we can conclude the followings:

  • Nichiren Shu do not recognize Nichiren as the “Buddha of the Latter Day”. Their Original Buddha is Shakyamuni Buddha
  • They don’t accept the position that Nichiren Daishonin appointed Nikko Shonin as his sole successor. They believe and follow Five Senior Priests whom betrayed Nichiren Daishonin.
  • The Gohonzon is not central in Nichiren Shu. Shakyamuni Buddha at times are more prominent than Gohonzon and they pray to other statues and images as well.
  • Besides chanting of Odaimoku, Nichiren Shu believers are also practicing other religious rituals.

It is very obvious that Nichiren Shu have deviated from the teachings and fundamental spirits of Nichiren Daishonin.

Vow for Kosen-rufu pulsates in SGI

The Soka Gakkai is the only organization that has inherited the Buddha’s intent and decree, and is carrying out Nichiren Daishonin’s wish for worldwide kosen-rufu. Let us observe the achievement of kosen-rufu today. What the SGI has accomplished today cannot be denied, and these should prove that faith in the SGI is in accord with the teaching of Nichiren Daishonin. Under the leadership of SGI President Ikeda, we have fulfilled Nichiren’s vow and prophesy of westward transmission. Nichiren Buddhism has now spread to 192 countries and territories. In contrast, the other Nichiren sects have completely deviated from the teachings of the Gosho. They only revered Nichiren Daishonin, but they do not make the Daishonin’s vow for kosen-rufu their own.

Only SGI fulfils the intent of Nichiren Daishonin by striving for the happiness of the people and the attainment of kosen-rufu in this world. Our faith is in exact accord with the spirit and intent of Nichiren Daishonin. SGI alone inherits the heritage of faith. It is only in SGI where we can find the lifeblood of Nichiren Daishonin pulsates.

Outside the SGI, there is no heritage of faith, and as the Gosho teaches, “Even embracing the Lotus Sutra would be useless without the heritage of faith.” In the light of this passage, it is useless to practice faith alone, slanderous to practice faith in the other Nichiren sects.

To slight the Soka Gakkai, depart from it or seek the heritage of faith or enlightenment somewhere else is like looking for water in the middle of a fire or looking for fire under water.

Points to Ponder on Nichiren Shu’s Stand during World War II

During World War II, Soka Gakkai Founding President Mr, Tsenesaburo Makiguchi and Second President Mr. Josei Toda were imprisoned due to their opposition to

Japan’s military government’s attempts to impose the doctrine of State Shinto through strict control of religions and thoughts inimical to its war effort. It is clear that their

outspoken criticism of the prevailing belief system represents an implicit and explicit protest against an extreme abuse of the educational process for militarist purposes.

In spite of being subjected to harsh interrogations, Mr. Makiguchi and Mr. Toda never retreated from their beliefs, the 72-year-old Makiguchi continued to assert the value of freedom of religion as a fundamental human right. On November 18, 1944, he died in prison at the age of 73 due to extreme malnutrition. Mr. Toda was released after two years imprisonment, just weeks before Japan’s surrender in 1945 and he rebuilt Soka Gakkai from ashes.

What had Nichiren Shu done to oppose the doctrine of State Shinto by Japan’s military government during World War II? Did they oppose, compromise, keep silent or work together with the military government? Please ask yourself this question and clarify this matter before jump into conclusion it is alright to join Nichiren Shu!

STOP BEING DECEIVED!

SKT and his gang of traitors and ingrates have indeed taken advantage of the Soka Gakkai and became so cunningly devilish. They are now attempting to corrupt and destroy the true faith of their followers and sympathisers. They totally ignorant of the tradition and essence of the Soka Gakkai’s spirit, they are pitiful individuals who harbour ambition and behave with ill and evil intentions, thinking they are clever but at the expense of others, hence destroyed their Buddha seeds by leading them into believing distorted teaching!

Please stop being deceived and leave those evil influences immediately! Evil companionship will surely lead you and family to the hell of incessant suffering!
